Here is the third and final installment of our look back at the year that was. The months leading up to the close of 2013 sounded a note of optimism for the coming new year, as industry heavyweights offered words of encouragement for independent brokers.

A sneak peek of the debut edition of Insurance Business magazine was shared through the exclusive interview with HUB’s CEO Martin Hughes in September, who made the argument that independents were still a force in the broker channel.

October had a chorus of voices calling for a national flood policy and an overhaul of property coverage insurance at an industry stakeholders’ forum in Alberta.

A major telematics contract was awarded by CAA South Central Ontario, to a provider that had been making waves in that province’s auto insurance market – a deal that potentially is worth $237 million.

And to wrap up the year, a suggestion made in December to brokers to have clients take advantage of an insurance discount on winter tires didn’t gain a lot of traction, and if anything, a little bit of ire.
