APRIL Canada has formally launched its APRIL University program, which aims to help educate insurance professionals on specific business lines and specialties.

The new APRIL University is headed by a team of accreditation professionals approved by RIBO, a release said. Classes will be held in Toronto and Kitchener, and registration is now open for those interested in participating.

APRIL’s formal launch of its University program comes as the MGA wrapped up its first successful training sessions in Quebec City. More than 180 professionals participated in the initial training program, which was held in atypical venues such as the Quebec Aquarium and Notman House in Montreal.

The MGA’s upcoming training programs in November – which can be offered either as in-person training or in webinar form – have been revealed:

  • Essentials of pleasure craft insurance (1.5 RIBO hours) – This course will provide participants with knowledge of the different types of boats, motors, and related pleasure craft coverages.
  • Ontario rentals & Airbnb market (1 RIBO hour) – This course enables participants to better understand Ontario’s landlords and Airbnb hosts and the issues they face in terms of insurance. The course introduces APRIL’s new insurance products for unpaid rents and damage caused by tenants.
  • Insurance for general and specialized contractors – This one-hour course (to be accredited by RIBO) provides participants with a breakdown of APRIL’s new contractors program, and the coverages made especially for these operations.

APRIL revealed in a release that it is planning new training programs in commercial automobile and commercial marine.
