Reminding drivers to be alert around school buses is at the top of one insurer’s list, once again sponsoring the ‘
Did You See Me?’ campaign.
For many years now,
Intact Insurance has supported the annual school bus safety awareness campaign in Quebec, and is once again doing it for 2015.
For Alexandre Royer, responsible for marketing and strategic distribution with Intact Assurance, it is a belief that insurance is about people.
“That's one of the reasons why we are proud to support this campaign whose goal is to make children safer,” says Royer. “One thing that makes us especially proud to be associated with this campaign is the positive impact it has had over the years on the target audience.”
This year’'s ‘Did You See Me?’ campaign runs from February 2 to 13, with the goal to remind people of the importance of safe behaviour around school buses.
The approach combines three types of communication:
- Public awareness messages: TV and radio ads as well as posters in public places, schools, driving schools and government buildings;
- Educational materials for teachers to encourage dialogue with children and promote safe behaviour; and
- A leaflet for children to take home to their parents with a message about safe driving and safe walking, particularly in school zones.
Those doubting the impact of the campaign can take one fact to heart: not one child has been killed in a school bus accident in Quebec since 2006.
“We think the initiatives related to school bus safety campaigns over the years have had much to do with this success story,” he says.
Some 523,000 students travel by school bus every morning and night in the province.
To maintain this outstanding record, it's essential to continue these initiatives of reaching out to drivers, schoolchildren and parents to keep the adoption of good driving and safety habits top-of-mind, adds Royer.
