The insurance industry has had a lot to say about how things are being run in Canada’s most populous province – and with an election set for June 12, we’re asking who you want to see in charge at Queen’s Park.

The new poll question on the Insurance Business home page asks the question ‘The Ontario Election:  Who will be the best voice for the insurance industry at Queen’s Park?’ For Joel Baker, president and CEO of MSA Research – who opened yesterday’s fifth Canadian Insurance Financial Forum – the decision is pretty clear.

“Unless Tim Hudak gets elected, it looks like it is going to proceed,” said Baker. “Last year will be remembered for the beginning of the mandated 15 per cent auto rate rollbacks in Ontario and the squeeze these will bring to players in that market.”

He was referencing the mandated 15 per cent auto premium cuts for Ontario drivers, with the first incremental 8 per cent target set for this August. Tim Hudak is the leader of the provincial Conservative party – a likely candidate to remove or reduce the premium cuts set by the minority Liberal government, as a requirement to pass the 2013 budget by the provincial New Democrats.

Our previous poll, ‘How often do you go over your client’s homeowner’s policy with them?’ revealed that the vast majority of brokers typically go policies every year or two years – with only one broker stating that it is the client who contacts them.
