Cemiar earns CSIO JSON API and security certifications

Transformation

Cemiar has become the first technology vendor to achieve CSIO's JSON API Standards Certification, marking a step forward in the Canadian insurance industry's push toward greater digital connectivity.

The company has also earned CSIO’s API Security Standards Certification, underscoring a focus on standardized security practices as data sharing between insurers, brokers and vendors becomes more automated.

The certifications confirm that Cemiar has implemented CSIO's JSON API Standards across five core insurance use cases within its CemiarLink platform -- First Notice of Loss, Get Adjuster Details, Get Billing Schedule, Get Payment Details and Get Payment Status. The company has also implemented CSIO's API Security Standards, which are designed to provide a consistent framework for authentication and authorization when information is exchanged between industry partners.

CSIO has positioned APIs as a foundational element of its data standards strategy, aimed at improving how information moves across the property and casualty insurance value chain. As more insurers and vendors program to common JSON API standards, brokers are able to access information in real time through a more unified workflow, reducing reliance on manual processes, duplicate data entry and inconsistent formats.

From an insurance operations perspective, this can improve claims handling speed, billing transparency and payment tracking, while supporting more consistent service delivery.

The inclusion of CSIO’s API Security Standards is particularly relevant as insurers and brokers increase their use of real-time data exchange. The standards establish a common security model that helps protect sensitive customer and claims information while allowing systems from different organizations to connect more easily. For insurers and vendors, this reduces the need to build custom security solutions for each integration and supports more scalable digital ecosystems.

Cemiar said the certifications reflect its role in advancing API adoption and technology innovation in the insurance sector, while reinforcing its commitment to stronger security controls that support broker confidence when serving customers.

CSIO, meanwhile, described the certifications as a meaningful example of how vendors can help drive adoption of data standards and improve broker connectivity through greater process automation and data protection.

The announcement comes as CSIO continues to encourage broader industry participation in its certification programs. Standardized APIs are increasingly seen as critical infrastructure for insurers seeking to modernize claims, billing and payments, and for brokers navigating multiple carrier systems. By validating both functional and security requirements, CSIO’s certifications aim to reduce fragmentation and accelerate digital transformation across the market.
