Optimity launches new premium digital wellness platform with Walnut Insurance

Wellness app company Optimity is launching a new premium version of its platform that also offers life and health coverage through a partnership deal with the digital insurance provider Walnut.

The Optimity app helps steer users into engaging in wellness micro-activities such as quick exercises, stretches, meditation, and so on. Participating in these activities nets users “gems,” which can be collected and redeemed for discounts and gift cards with major retailers.

Meanwhile, the Premium version of Optimity will enable additional access to digital wellness programs such as Headspace Plus for mental health support, and ClassPass Digital for exercise resources. It also grants access to Dashlane Premium for password protection and other online security services. At the same time, the app will offer users a $5,000 no-exam life insurance policy, courtesy of Walnut Insurance.

"Nearly 40% of Canadians do not have life insurance and 30% lack health insurance, which perpetuates the cycle of economic inequality leading to health inequality,” said Optimity CEO Jane J. Wang. “This new product is a direct response to this critical problem and gives anyone access to a family of proven wellness programs and insurance options so they can take control of their health and their future.”

"Life insurance is something many Canadians don't think about until a major life event occurs," added Walnut co-founder and CEO Derek Szeto. "Our goal is to make the process transparent, accessible, and affordable, so anyone can get the protection they need. We are thrilled to be working with Optimity to give more Canadians coverage."
