Ecclesiastical Insurance has named David Hockey (pictured) as director of schemes and partnerships.

Hockey joins from Admiral, where he served as CEO of Admiral Business. He previously led Admiral Group's entry into the SME market, building the operation across broker, direct and partners distribution channels.

Earlier in his career, he was head of digital trading at Aviva, responsible for digital trading performance, underwriting portfolio management and technology-led transformation in the UK market.

The appointment forms part of Ecclesiastical's wider growth plans as it continues to build its schemes, MGA and partnership strategy. The role aims to support commercial lines expansion and strengthen relationships with brokers and partners.

Commenting on his new role, Hockey said he was looking forward to joining Ecclesiastical and is seeing opportunity across commercial lines through schemes, MGAs and partnerships. He said he aims to work with colleagues and broker partners to support long-term growth.

"I'm delighted to be joining Ecclesiastical at such an exciting point in its journey," he said. "There is real opportunity to grow our commercial lines business across schemes, MGAs and partnerships."

Hockey will join the business in January 2026, replacing Chris Withers, who stepped down in November after 10 years with the insurer.

The appointment follows several senior hires at Ecclesiastical as the company continues to invest in leadership to support expansion. Recent arrivals include casualty director James Medlicott from HDI Global and UKGI finance director Anna Stratton from Allianz Partners.

Ecclesiastical, part of Benefact Group, continues to highlight talent attraction and workplace engagement as part of its strategy. The group received a UK three-star engagement accreditation in 2025 and was ranked fourth in the Best Big Companies to Work For list and second in the insurance category. As a charity-owned business, its framework supports reinvestment into good causes and contributes to its recruitment appeal across the industry.
