Roost, a provider of home telematics for property insurance carriers, has announced a partnership with Erie Insurance, one of the nation’s largest homeowners’ insurers. Erie will be using Roost’s Smart Water Leak and Freeze Detector product to test customer engagement in order to prevent water damage claims.

“After looking into a number of home sensor products, we chose Roost’s Home Telematics and Smart Sensor solutions for our pilot given the product’s ease of use and data platform,” said Bob Buckel, vice president of personal lines for Erie Insurance.

Roost’s Smart Water Leak and Freeze Detector is designed to sense water leaks, humidity and freezing temperatures. When it spots any of those conditions, it sends the homeowner smartphone alerts through its mobile app. The Wi-Fi-enabled detector can be set up in less than five minutes and is easily located in leak-prone areas of the home like sinks, water heaters and toilets, according to Roost.
