Onlia, a company that provides digital home and auto insurance in Ontario, has announced that it is introducing a “premium holiday” for customers by waiving one full monthly premium payment.

This “premium holiday” will be for the month of May for both Onlia’s home and auto insurance customers. All active policyholders as of March 31, 2020 who have made at least one full monthly premium payment will automatically receive the one-month premium waiver, a release said.

According to Onlia, this measure is intended to help relieve some of the financial impact customers are experiencing due to the pandemic.

“Onlia has always put the safety of Canadians first, and now more than ever we are pulling together to protect one another,” said Onlia CEO Pieter Louter. “With customers presently experiencing un-precedented lifestyle changes, we are taking additional steps to provide support and assistance to our community.”

Onlia is also using its proprietary safe driving app, Onlia Sense, to further incentivize drivers. Typically, the app rewards safe driving behaviour, but for the month of May, customer can earn $20 for not driving at all.

“Our community has made significant strides in decreasing road usage over the past month,” said Onlia head of marketing Olivia van Eyk. “Trips taken by Onlia Sense users have decreased by 70% from March 01 to April 01, displaying a commitment to social distancing.”
