Ford Motor Company has issued a recall for over 5,800 F-150 trucks – more than 1,400 of which are in Canada – over an issue with their driveshafts.

According to the automaker, the affected trucks are equipped with two-piece driveshafts that could disconnect, which can lead to a sudden loss of drive power. Ford also warned that the trucks can also roll away when parked without the parking brakes engaged.

Ford noted that the issue affects F-140 trucks from the 2021 model year, and explained that a supplier may have improperly secured the c-clip connection between the driveshaft halves of the affected trucks. The company learned that the driveshaft supplier permitted certain driveshaft assemblies to bypass automated verification after warranty claims regarding the two-piece driveshafts were not properly installed.

CarComplaints.com reported that Ford is aware of at least seven field reports of driveshafts that disconnected on 2021 F-150s. But the company said it is unaware of any crash or injury reports related to the issue.

The car company advised that F-150 drivers will know that there is a problem with their vehicle if they hear a banging or clanking noise coming from the truck.

Ford said that its dealers will replace any faulty F-150 driveshafts after the owners have been notified by mail on June 14, 2021.
