Manitoba Public Insurance (MPI), the Crown corporation which manages the province’s basic auto insurance and driver licensing systems, has announced that it has suspended all scheduled road tests due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

A statement on the company’s website said that the cancellations have been in effect since March 14, 2020 and will apply until further notice. New road tests are also not available at this time.

MPI also said that it is currently in the process of contacting affected customers; those customers whose road tests were cancelled will be contacted again at a later date to reschedule once the insurer is capable of resuming testing.

Despite the cancellations, MPI said that knowledge tests and enhanced identification interview appointments are still ongoing, and that customers are still able to reschedule these appointments.

MPI also said in a separate release that in-person adjusting appointments – to have a driver’s license changed or canceled – are being transitioned to be completed over the phone. Customers with scheduled appointments will be contacted directly for more information.
