The Centre for Study of Insurance Operations (CSIO) has appointed Kathryn Sinclair its interim president after Catherine Smola decided to leave to pursue other opportunities.

Sinclair has over 20 years of experience in the property and casualty insurance sector, having led and supported organizations across various operational areas. As CSIO’s vice president of strategy and operations, she has spent the last five years leading initiatives aimed at improving processes within the broker channel, with a track record of achieving organizational goals and advancing business strategies.

CSIO expressed confidence in Sinclair’s leadership during the transition period. It also said that it will begin the process of selecting a permanent president. At the same time, CSIO acknowledged Smola’s contributions over the past 13 years and extends best wishes for her future endeavors.

Recently, CSIO expanded its commercial lines (CL) data standards to include cyber and errors & omissions insurance, in line with the organization’s key priority in 2025, which is improving broker efficiency.

The inclusion of cyber into the standards will allow brokers to quote and bind cyber risks up to $1 million. The organization also incorporated over 380 Insurance Bureau of Canada codes for instant API quoting through its publication of CL data standards for E&O.

“Together, the commercial lines working group responded to industry demand for increased coverage of real-time quoting by publishing CL data standards for cyber and errors & omissions,” said Kathryn Sinclair, vice president of strategy and operations at CSIO. “Their significant achievement supports an important industry initiative to enhance our CL Data Standards offerings for improved broker productivity.”

CSIO is Canada’s industry technology association for property and casualty insurers, vendors, and more than 43,000 brokers. It focuses on developing, implementing, and maintaining technology standards and solutions, including CSIOnet, eDocs, and My Proof of Insurance, to enhance the insurance experience in Canada.
