Desjardins General Insurance Group (DGIG) has released its public accountability statement for 2020, which highlights the initiatives the insurer supported last year.

The insurer, its subsidiaries, and its parent company backed or created the following initiatives in 2020:

  • The Desjardins Group committed a total of $71,500,000 to charitable donations, sponsorships, philanthropic partnerships and scholarships – $2,310,303 of which was contributed directly by DGIG.
  • DGIG contributed a total of $43,800 to the Canadian Red Cross, to provide financial support to those recovering from accidents or natural disasters.
  • DGIG also contributed $197,000 to the Desjardins Foundation, Desjardins Group’s charitable organization dedicated to encouraging youth to succeed academically and in other ways.
  • The insurer donated $260,000 to the Traffic Injury Research Fund to support the fund’s efforts to reduce vehicle collision-related injuries and fatalities, on top of helping the organization raise awareness.
  • DGIG created the Desjardins Assistance Fund to support policyholders and Desjardins Group members in Quebec who were affected by disasters not covered by their insurance; in 2020, this fund provided a total of $40,000 to members and clients.
  • As of December 31, 2020, over 1,290 DGIG employees participated in the company’s outreach program, volunteering a total of 27,440 hours of their time and raising more than $119,085 for various Canadian charitable organizations.
  • DGIG’s subsidiaries offer discounts on car and home insurance for clients with fuel-efficient, hybrid or electric vehicles and those who live in LEED-certified buildings.

DGIG is a subsidiary of Desjardins Group, which offers P&C insurance products and complementary services.
