The Insurance Institute of Canada (IIC) has launched a new commercial insurance certificate program to help prepare professionals for the commercial insurance space.

The three-course program is suited for those looking to expand their career, from personal to commercial lines. It is also said to be ideal for commercial insurance professionals who want to diversify their current skillset. Brokers, underwriters, risk assessors, claims adjusters, and other insurance professionals are all welcome to join the program.

IIC’s program is broken into three courses:

  • Commercial Insurance Essentials – This introductory course will identify, define, and explain the essentials of commercial insurance. Insurance professionals will review contextual factors, key stakeholders, and the central elements of crafting commercial solutions.
  • Commercial Exposures and Solutions – The second course will analyze typical exposures, risk analysis, and coverage solutions in everyday scenarios. Topics include first- and third-party coverages, as well as established and newly emerging types of commercial risk.
  • Applied Commercial Solutions – The final course will combine the skills and themes from the previous two courses. It will consist of a multi-week case study, wherein participants are invited to apply relevant solutions to multi-faceted exposure scenarios. The course will also assess how corporate strategy affects coverage decisions, and how emerging industry developments can disrupt the industry.

The program will be conducted online, taking about 6-8 hours a week.

IIC added that the courses are eligible for continued education credits and CIP elective credits.
