Navacord founding broker partner Jones DesLauriers has announced the acquisition of Abatis Risk Management (Abatis) in Quebec, marking Navacord’s first strategic partnership in La Belle Province.

Founded in 2017 and co-owned by president Carl Benjamin and COO Nicola D'Alessio, Abatis is a commercial insurance brokerage known for its hands-on approach and boutique service.

In the coming months, Abatis will transition to operating under the Jones DesLauriers brand, which has been operating in Canada for over 50 years.

Through this partnership, Jones DesLauriers hopes to strengthen its commercial bench strength by growing its practice across the manufacturing, construction, and real estate industries in Quebec, while further developing its client-centric strategy, with the ability to service clients in English and French.

Commenting on the addition of Abatis, Navacord executive chairman T. Marshall Sadd said: “We’re pleased to welcome Carl and Nicola as partners and shareholders within Navacord. They will work closely with our leadership at Jones DesLauriers as we continue to build out Navacord's presence and value proposition in Quebec.”

Meanwhile, Jones DesLauriers president and CEO Eric Osborne highlighted the Abatis’ years of risk management expertise and sector specialisation that aligns with Jones DesLauriers's “strong entrepreneurial spirit.”

He said: “They simultaneously complement and expand our niches while adding a fresh approach and perspective when managing the unique client needs and risks within the Quebec market.”
