Swiss Re has announced that Claudia Cordioli, currently chief financial officer of reinsurance, has been appointed as the company’s new group finance director, effective May 1.

In this newly created position, Cordioli will oversee the group reporting, group tax, accounting and reporting, and finance corporate functions, as well as the implementation of the IFRS framework across finance. She will report to group CFO John Dacey.

“Claudia Cordioli has a breadth of experience covering both business and finance functions, having worked in both areas in her numerous years at Swiss Re,” Dacey said. “She is well known for her drive and leadership skills, as well as her track record in building strong teams and businesses. She was a natural choice for the role as group finance director. I look forward to continue working closely with her in advancing our finance function.”

Cordioli has more than 20 years of experience and has served as CFO of reinsurance since February 2020. Prior to that, she served as head of Western and Southern Europe, leading Swiss Re’s reinsurance business in 15 countries. Cordioli has served in a range of positions since joining the company in 2003, including CFO of EMEA, head of group external reporting, and managing director for Italy, Iberia and the Mediterranean. Cordioli co-chairs Swiss Re’s Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Council in Zurich.

Before joining Swiss Re, she worked at a number of banking and consulting firms, including KPMG.

Cordioli holds a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Verona and has completed her Certified Public Accountant exams in the US. She is a fellow of the Aspen Institute Finance Leaders Fellowship and a member of the Aspen Global Leadership Network.
