Trisura Guarantee Insurance has announced that current chief financial officer and co-founder John Garner will be retiring.

A release said that Garner’s retirement takes effect June 30, 2018. Trisura has tapped David Scotland to succeed him as the company’s new CFO.

Garner began his career in insurance with Clarkson Gordon in 1978, where he served as a consultant to insurance brokerages in Canada. He later accepted a senior role with Trivest, which saw him lead a team that provided advisory services to insurance brokers. Garner eventually became CFO of Wellington Guarantee, then London Guarantee, where he remained until the company was sold in 2002. He then joined Cookson Walker, before co-founding Trisura in 2005.

“John’s guidance and counsel will be missed by all of us at Trisura. Fortunately, we are in good hands with the promotion of David Scotland to CFO of Trisura Guarantee,” said Mike George, Trisura president and CEO, in a statement.

David Scotland has served Trisura Guarantee over the past eight years as the company’s controller and vice-president of finance.

“Although David has big shoes to fill, he is very capable and knowledgeable and is backed by an extraordinary team and we are confident he will flourish in his new role,” George added.
