Service Line Warranties of Canada (SLWC) is now offering optional repair plans to resident of Bashaw, AB – making the town the first in Alberta to have access to the water and sewer line repair provider’s services.

According to town officials, Bashaw chose to implement this optional program so that residents do not have to worry about water or sewer line failures, and the cost to repair them.

The service plans have no deductible and are reasonably priced, a SLWC release said, and will cover for repairs not covered under standard homeowners’ insurance or by the town itself.

"We are excited to make these optional, low-cost repair plans available to our residents through a proven, reputable program like Service Line Warranties," said Bashaw chief administrative officer Theresa Fuller. "Every homeowner knows that sometimes, unfortunate things happen. To provide access to our residents with a way to eliminate the financial burden or worry from these situations is a huge win for our community."

A release noted that SLWC’s program in Bashaw is provided at no cost to the town, and no public funds have been used to promote or administer it.

SLWC’s program launch in Bashaw marks its first such arrangement in the province of Alberta. Some 65 other municipalities in Ontario offer their residents access to SLWC repair service plans.

Last year, SLWC published a report which found that one in five respondents – about 19% of survey participants – said that they have no money set aside for an emergency home repair. The same report found that 31% respondents said that they only have $500 or less to spare for emergency repairs.
