Digital insurance company Onlia and connected car data solutions firm Insurance & Mobility Solutions (IMS) have announced that they are renewing their partnership for another three years.

Both companies collaborated to develop the Onlia Sense app for Onlia. Onlia Sense is a mobile app that drivers can use to track their driving behaviour; the app then rewards safe driving in the form of insurance cashbacks, and even ranks drivers on a leaderboard to further encourage safer driving. Development of the Onlia Sense app was made possible thanks to IMS’s software development kit.

“The continued collaboration between IMS and Onlia will enable us to fully exploit the value of telematics technology in delivering improved road safety through the prevention-first approach that is at the heart of Onlia Sense,” said IMS CEO of insurance Bob Skerrett, who added that IMS looks forward to its role in combining “class-leading technology” with a rewards and insurance cashback program for another three years.

IMS – a subsidiary of Trak Global Group – brought its usage-based insurance technology from the UK to both the US and Canada earlier this year.

“The IMS software development kit (SDK) offers us rapid development potential for both iOS and Android platforms, with ease of customization, and minimal maintenance,” commented Onlia CEO Pieter Louter. “We continue to partner with IMS for new telematics capabilities, based on their solid industry experience and a future-forward roadmap.”

Onlia previously offered its customers a “premium holiday,” by waiving full monthly premium payments for the month of May. This was the insurer’s way of relieving some of its customers’ financial difficulties in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic.
