Mergers & Acquisitions

Inszone Insurance Services has made its second acquisition in Nebraska within three months, picking up Sommelier Insurance Group, LLC, an Omaha commercial lines specialist. The deal adds trucking, home health care, and contractor insurance capacity to the Sacramento-based firm’s national network.

Luper Akough founded Sommelier Insurance Group in September 2020. Over six years, the agency developed a commercial client base in the Omaha market through complex specialty lines.

Financial terms were not disclosed.

Akough said growth made a national partner necessary: “We reached a point where we wanted to provide our clients with access to more carriers, more support, and more resources.” He added that Inszone offered the platform needed to scale the agency’s specialized offerings.

Complementary niches drive the deal

Under the agreement, Sommelier’s team retains its local presence and sector focus. The agency also gains access to Inszone’s carrier network and back-office support.

Chris Walters, CEO of Inszone Insurance Services, said the deal fits the company’s commercial growth strategy.

“Their focus on trucking, home health care, and contractors perfectly complements our national strategy,” he said. He added that Inszone looks forward to giving the Sommelier team resources to accelerate growth.

The first Nebraska deal came in March 2026, when Inszone acquired Jaffery Insurance & Financial Services, also in Omaha. The acquisition focused on personal lines, with a concentration in home and auto coverage, making Sommelier’s commercial specialty a distinct addition to the state portfolio.

One of the most active buyers in US brokerage

The Nebraska push is part of a wider acquisition campaign that has put Inszone among the top three most active US broker buyers in 2025. It ranked alongside BroadStreet Partners and World Insurance Associates, with the three firms accounting for 19.4% of 753 announced broker M&A transactions that year.

The firm has grown from 25 employees to more than 900 since 2002, supported by investment from BHMS Investments in 2020 and Lightyear Capital in 2023.

Trucking specialty enters a pressured market

Sommelier’s trucking focus brings Inszone into one of the more strained segments of the commercial lines market. Risk Placement Services has reported that trucking firms face continued pressure in 2026 from tariff uncertainty, depressed spot market rates, and rising insurance and repair costs.

These conditions have increased demand for specialist brokers with deep sector knowledge, making Sommelier’s expertise a direct fit for Inszone’s national platform.
