The Insurance Bureau of Canada (IBC) has announced that two more insurance companies have signed on as members of its industry association - SE Mutual Insurance and Saskatchewan Mutual Insurance (SMI).

SE Mutual is the largest locally-owned insurance company in New Brunswick. Meanwhile, SMI has been in business since 1908, and works with brokers in Saskatchewan, Alberta and Manitoba.

"We're proud to welcome and work with both SE Mutual and SMI," said IBC president and CEO Don Forgeron. "IBC leverages the collective expertise of its members and enables them to speak with a unified voice about the issues that matter most to our industry. Both companies will help strengthen our efforts to help shape public policy and better protect Canadians from risk."

IBC’s team of GR and policy experts have the “political acuity and data-driven insights” to help lead the advocacy of its members, it said in a release. Membership in IBC is available to both private Canadian P&C insurers and reinsurers.

In January, IBC revealed that AIG had joined as an association member. AIG had been in business in Canada for more than 50 years and is currently licensed to operate in all provinces and territories.
