International private equity firm Cinven and global investment group La Caisse have agreed to acquire Optio Group, a specialty insurance managing general agent platform headquartered in the U.K. Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed.
Founded in 2018 and based in London, Optio originates, underwrites, and manages specialty risk on behalf of more than 60 third-party capacity providers. The company underwrites a diversified portfolio across six business lines, including profession and specialty, transportation, property and energy, healthcare, transactional liability, and surety and credit, spanning more than 30 products. Optio operates 18 offices across 15 countries, with a footprint stretching across the U.K., Europe, the U.S., the Middle East, and Asia.
Cinven and La Caisse said they view the acquisition as a strong opportunity, pointing to Optio's diversified, capital-light business model, its track record of disciplined underwriting, and its ability to attract and retain top underwriting talent. Both firms also highlighted the potential for continued growth, both organically and through further acquisitions in what they describe as a highly fragmented specialty MGA market.
