Capitalizing on its previous successful launch in the US, Wawanesa Mutual Insurance is utilizing the Guidewire InsuranceSuite platform to provide products in Alberta.

The new policy administration platform was implemented in Alberta in November 2017 as part of the insurer’s multi-year strategy to modernize its core legacy systems and processes.

“The goal was simple, deploy a platform to help us better serve our valued customers and brokers at a time when digital connections are radically changing many aspects of the insurance business,” said Wawanesa senior vice-president and chief strategy officer Carol Jardine. “We believe Guidewire sets a very high standard for automating and optimizing a bigger part of the shared digital experience between customer, broker and insurance company.”

A release said that all new business for commercial automobile, personal automobile and personal property in Alberta will be underwritten in the Guidewire platform. Over the next year, all existing commercial/personal auto and personal property policies will be migrated to the new system.

“We are excited for the team at Wawanesa as their transformation project begins to roll out across Canada,” Guidewire Software chief delivery officer Mike Polelle said in a statement. “Our technology is the solid foundation upon which Wawanesa can provide an overall enhanced experience for their policyholders and brokers alike.”

Wawanesa also revealed that it plans to gradually roll out the Guidewire platform across British Columbia, Manitoba and Saskatchewan later this year.
