Aviva and Local Insurance are partnering on an initiative that allows customers to donate to their favourite charities when they purchase home or auto insurance from an Aviva broker.

A portion of the commission for every policy sold under the “Insurance For Your Cause” program will be donated to the customer’s choice of registered Canadian charities, the insurer said in a statement. Brokers joining the program will be able to engage their local charities, providing a great opportunity to demonstrate their commitment to social responsibility.

“The Insure For Your Cause concept grew from a desire to benefit those in need in our communities, while developing goodwill with the insurance-purchasing public,” said Rod LaRocque, CEO of Local Insurance.

Chris Sevdalis, Aviva Canada senior vice president, said the firm is excited to be the exclusive insurance partner of the initiative.

“As one of the country’s largest insurance groups already supporting communities through the Aviva Community Fund, we believe the program will be a great benefit to our brokers and customers, as well as to their communities,” he said.

The insurer also maintains the Aviva Community Fund, an online community funding competition that has awarded $7.5 million to over 250 charities and community groups nationwide since its inception in 2009.
