Economical Insurance is offering a total of $200,000 in donations to 20 community-based organizations that have been selected by the company’s employees and broker partners.

The donations are a part of the company’s annual “Choose Your Charity” campaign, which invites Economical’s employees and broker partners to nominate and vote on charities within their local area. Charities whose needs have increased or have been neglected were recommended.

For this year, Economical focused on charitable organizations which have faced severe financial difficulties due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

"While we are seeing our communities start to reopen cautiously, the COVID-19 pandemic continues and charitable organizations need immediate assistance," said Economical vice president of marketing and communication David Bradfield. “With the growing call across the country to provide more support to Canada's charity and non-profit sector, I'm proud to see the way our employees and brokers have banded together to advocate for causes they care about.”

Bradfield also noted that for this year, the campaign revealed an “overwhelming support” for causes such as Canadian youth, crisis services, healthcare, and anti-racism.

Economical opened nominations for the charities last June, with the voting period lasting until the end of the month.

The campaign saw over 2,400 votes. Economical split the $200,000 donation made to each winning charity to reflect the majority of employee and broker partner votes. Twenty charities were selected, each receiving an amount ranging from $6,250 to as much as $15,000.

“By aligning corporate values with what our employees and broker partners care about, Economical aims to positively impact community needs across Canada,” said Bradfield. “During this difficult time, it's empowering to see Choose Your Charity reinforce the geographic distribution of funds to meet the local needs of community members across Canada.”
