Aviva Plc’s board has been given a boost with the arrival of independent non-executive director (NED) George Culmer, who was Lloyds Banking Group chief financial officer until August 02 this year.

The NED appointment took effect yesterday (September 25) and also sees Culmer join the insurer’s board audit, risk, and nomination committees. A Coopers & Lybrand alumnus, the Chartered Accountant spent years at the likes of RSA, Zurich, and Prudential.

“George brings significant board level experience with 15 years as a FTSE 100 chief financial officer,” noted Aviva chair Sir Adrian Montague CBE.

“He also has a deep understanding of insurance and wider financial services. George is an outstanding addition to our board, and I am delighted to welcome him to Aviva.”
